Housing the Homeless
The Volunteers of America (VOA) (www.voasg.org) provides a great service in the form of education, behavior health, and housing for people who are homeless. VOA arranges for churches in the local area to provide shelter and food for such individuals. Each church typically is assigned for a week at a time. The Bayside Church of Christ has been supporting this activity during a week in December in recent years.
Each day, members of our congregation receive the homeless into our Family Life Center, provide them with an evening meal, ensure they have safe and warm housing in the facility, and provide breakfast the next morning and a bag lunch for them to take with them as they pursue their daily activities away from the building.
